The year is 2020. I am your typical thirty year-old American. Most of my life has been spent crossing off that list of milestones that are supposed to lead to something fulfilling. Get my driver’s license? Got it and only one point short of failing. Graduate high school, check. Spend all the money on a useful college degree? Done. Get a job. Buy stuff. Get a better job. Buy more stuff. And most importantly, do all of this without asking any big, icky questions. If you accidentally find them creeping in, dismiss them as fast as possible.
In other words, live life on the default settings.
Here’s the problem: these default settings don’t seem to be cutting it anymore. Those big, icky questions have started to pop up more and more often.
The intention of this site is to find more opportunities to explore those questions. To encourage others to explore those questions. I imagine many of the topics discussed here will be fully entrenched in that area we know as ‘gray’. I don’t expect anyone to call me right and I expect a fair number of people to call me wrong. I’m not concerned with being right or wrong.
I ask that you take everything here with a grain of salt. I am nothing special. I do not hold a PhD in some form of higher thinking. I have not written a New York Times bestseller. I don’t even see myself as particularly smart. These, however, are not requirements to read, think or write and I have found that I particularly enjoy all three. If you are here, then you probably do too.
Enjoy.
